People forget how much context influences community participation. Put someone in a room full of people talking a certain way and theyโ€™ll inevitably adopt that way of talking.

Thatโ€™s why the epic aggression and negativity on Twitter is so poisonous. In the end, it doesnโ€™t matter what the tools do or how they look. What matters is the community content and tone. What matters is whatโ€™s considered normal.

Imagining if Mastodon called instances "neighborhoods" instead. The metaphor works really well IMO and doesn't sound like robot-speke.

We are all interconnected. Change is inevitable. We can participate in the change, or we can fight it. Most of us need something to fight for. By choosing to participate in change, we are choosing to fight entropy.
